What just started as a fun way to share your knowledge and expertise over web when Web 2.0 came in to force, has now evolved itself in to profession un to itself. I do not mean to say that everyone who blogs are doing it as a full time profession, but people who do it as a full time work just keep on soaring high like never before. There are quite substantial reasons as to why one might want to up take blogging as his profession, like freedom of working from home, earning enough money if not more than enough, freedom to work from anywhere in the world. I know you might find these reasons quite intriguing but lets not get our hopes up initially as taking up blogging as your full time work demand a serious foundation with the basics of it.

First and most important step is identifying the topic that interests you to blog about, I know you might think its not a big deal, but let me be very clear here, it is a big deal at least for me or for many out there. Identifying your niche is more like identifying yourself, understanding yourself, you cannot keep writing about the topic you hardly have any interest in all your life, you need to love what you write about, when you love to write about it you tend to produce more unique and interesting articles to your readers and not otherwise.

So how can you go about identifying your niche? Being frank there is no easy way in to it. Start experimenting, just know that experimentation is not a waste of your time or effort, it is through experimenting you gain the real knowledge that comes from your own experience, when you gain the authentic knowledge by experimenting with different niche you will eventually end up finding out the topic of your interest and all the mistakes you did during your experimentation phase will back you up in a great way than you can imagine, no effort really goes waste, just have it at the back of your head all the time.

Do not expect everything would just start to shoot up from the moment you start up with your blog, on the way you will most likely come across some serious set backs, search engines might ban your site for some mistakes you did, your site might get sandboxed so your site might end up getting no visitors at all from search engines for several weeks to few months, there may be hack attempts on your server. Just know that I am not discouraging you while telling you this, there are bound to be initial set backs on your pursuit. Only advice I can give you is face it and do not quit. Always remember the saying “Winner never quits, Quitter never wins”. When you face the set backs you will eventually find a way through your problems and accelerate your progress further more.

Once you start getting a decent level of visitors to your blog, think of a way on how you can effectively monetize your traffic, thousands of visitors to your site will be just useless to you, if you are not making proper use of it. As you start to get more popular, start to penetrate your niche further. For example if you are doing a site on gadgets, you can try to create a youtube channel for your blog, get to the showrooms and take pictures of the gadgets you want to review, also make videos of the same, giving information about price and where it can be bought and what not. Start giving more to your visitors through penetrating further in to the niche which will make you to stand out from the crowd.
